Hey, I’d like to welcome you to another episode of Mission Matters. My name is Adam Torres. And if you’d like to apply to be a guest in the show, just head on over to missionmatters. com and click on be our guest to apply. All right. So today is a very special episode. We’re bringing back on Kathleen Tepley, who is with the Los Angeles consulting group and we bring her on.
Every month for a very special series that we do. And what we’re doing is we go through the events that are going on which are numerous and you’ll find out in a while they’re busy, busy, and also we go through the Los Angeles consulting group in general and the great work they’re doing in building community of which we’re a part of, and we like to go support their events and what they do and they support us as well.
So first off Kathleen, welcome back to the show. Hello, Adam. How are you? Well, I’m feeling pretty good. In the warmup for everybody listening, you obviously didn’t hear that part. I got to teach Kathleen something today, which soul taught me, which is about this thing called my day, which it think of it like a tea that they drink , In Argentina and it’s really wide known, but over in the United States, the only way I ever knew of it wasn’t an energy drink, but over there is something completely different.
So I got to ask you, Kathleen, you’re getting a maté glass. What’d you call it? A boom, but what’s the straw call? So the metal straw that comes with the glass is called a boomba or a boombilla. So yes, you got me hooked. I love herba mate and I love the philosophy around it. That’s who you and I are.
So I will share , my mate with people because you. So it’s pretty cool. And I think the whole sharing the communal aspect of it is amazing. And everybody’s listening like, okay, so what is Los Angeles consulting group about? I’m going to get to it. Okay. Gosh, I understand. I know. We’ll talk about the events, talk about what’s coming up, but we’re just catching up here too.
All right. So for that, Adam, this is great. So first thing first I, we got a bunch of new listeners this and, and we’re blessed to have that. Just maybe start off with Los Angeles Consulting Group a little bit , about the organization for those that maybe aren’t aware of it yet. Sure. Absolutely.
LACG, Los Angeles Consulting Group, is a philosophy. It is something that really spoke to our heart 30 plus years ago. And we’ve created this now as a global community from London, Singapore, Dubai, all the way here in the United States. And we provide outsourced strategy and support to these global family offices.
Ultra high net worth investors and the ecosystem around the space and it’s incredible. It’s incredible how much it’s grown in the last 15 years. And then especially since COVID and it’s because of platforms like mission matters that really helps us , share the word and get more people involved.
It also, Makes a difference because when there was no water in a town during COVID and we put the word out within two days, that town had water and was able to feed or be distributed amongst all the people in the town. So it’s, it’s a huge community that likes to give back. And we do that by sharing these different events that we do , and spending time together.
So thank you, Adam, for always including us. And being a part of our community. Oh, yeah. What do you think keeps people coming back? I know why I go back to, to events and, and what I get out of it, but I’m just curious before I share mine what you feel others get out of it and why they come back.
I’ve asked the question. My team’s asked the question. I think because of our philosophy of the give to give mentality, the events are about you. It’s about the community. What inspires me to do an event is how you walk away, how you feel the event was for you. So if you meet people at the event, if the right people are curated, if there’s an amazing experience, maybe there’s a philanthropic call to action.
Maybe there is a, for profit call to action, but everybody is of the same mindset, and that is those that want to make a difference in the world. It’s supporting other people that just start companies, start a new nonprofit. It’s supporting those family offices that have a multi generational focus and they need support with it.
I think it’s people feeling when they attend our events or they come on our. Webinars is when they walk away. How do they feel from their experience? What did they take away? How about you? Why do you keep coming back? I’ll tell you like it’s always interesting. You always have a new format new people it’s always curated like we’ll get into some of the I was looking at, you know For everybody listening, by the way, you’re this event by the time this is released this event would have passed but i’m like What’s going on?
Wealth, wine, and art in London. I’m like, come on. That was October 2nd, by the way, for every listener. I think we talked about it last month though, leading into this one. So I’m sure cause we do this every month for everybody. That’s for the new, listeners. The content. Like the content, like in all the different things you go to.
Sometimes you go to not dissing anybody, everybody tries, I get it. But like, what keeps somebody coming back? It’s kind of like, I just feel like you guys don’t miss. You always bring together great crowds. There’s always a great audience. And then the content, like the different, like the education component of it.
Like that’s important to me if I’m going somewhere. And so you, deliver. Oh, well, we love it. We love providing the different events and we can’t accept every single event. We want to have some type of mechanism for learning or some type of mechanism for investing, or even some type of mechanism for community impact.
Yeah. And some of these other ones, like, yeah, family matters with Dr. Jeremy Lurie there. I think I’m pronouncing that correctly. You have a private investor webinar and some of these will be, have already been passed, but don’t worry, we’ll get into the ones that are upcoming as well, but I’ve also noticed that you just have strong partners, , like, and sponsors, like a cross beam, for example, I know that since we’ve been doing this, since we’ve been doing this monthly show.
Okay. That I’ve noticed a lot of some of the same names come up, like in terms of sponsors otherwise. And I know when sponsors stick with someone or stick with the community, it’s not because they’re not getting value. So that’s a little tip, right? Like people aren’t going to stay unless they’re getting valued.
Like that’s the main thing. And take it a step farther Adam, it’s growth. I think with Crossbeam I know the partners, Ted Kerr and Brad Blash, and Brad came out of retirement to join with Ted. They had been previous partners because they wanted to solve a problem, and their problem that they were solving is workforce housing up in the mountain areas, the ski, ski towns.
And we have a lot of investors that own homes up there and can’t even go have pizza because they can’t get people to have housing in the area. So we love the impact that it has with , our partners and even knowing them and their multi generational focus, whether they’re a family office and.
Or they’re an investor that wants to transition this to their kids. It’s, it’s just such an incredible opportunity to be able to influence the multigenerational or succession. And that’s what these events have done. Every single one of these have some type of component of that. Yeah, I know we’ve mentioned them in the past, but maybe go a little bit further on this one, because I don’t think we’ve talked about them too much.
Gameplay Network. So I see you have a a webinar coming up with them and talk to me about more, a little bit about Gameplay Network. So this is someone that we met a little over a couple of years ago. His name is David David Marshall, and he and his partner 20 years ago, created a company and then sold it.
And then they are still partners today and then started this aspect. It’s about gaming horse racing. Racing and they’ve navigated it. Now put it into gaming. It’s an investment opportunity. It took them a year to convince me to come and support them. But when I really got to know both Russell and David, I am just so inspired by them, you know, they believe in the give to give.
They’ve really worked hard on this company. They will be selling it next year, but we love to have our family offices and our investors look at some of these opportunities that we’ve supported and, or we believe in, and it’s a safe environment to learn a little bit. And then also David shares and educates about the gaming industry, what that looks like.
And so this 1 is speaks to my heart because he does educate on every webinar. Wow. Did you know, I went to maybe my fourth ever horse race last Sunday? There we go. Yeah. You must not have caught the Instagram story. It’s okay. I know you’re busy, not just sitting around looking at it.
And I did pretty well. , I was with some people that were, that knew what they’re doing. And some people that bet in excess, I mean, they’re professionals. They’re in this business and other things . Like they bet like large amounts and they’re like. , 200 days a year they’re involved with the sport.
So yeah, they created a little simple strategy for me and I played, that was okay for my risk return. I did. It was fun. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I did. I more than doubled my money. It was fun. It was fun. But it was even above winning. Winning is good. Don’t worry. I had it. I knew how much I was willing to lose.
And I was like, okay, here we go. This is the money in my pocket and then they kind of created a little strategy. But for me, what was fun is just even getting to know like that world of like the owners, the person I went with owned a horse and he owned one of the horses that were racing and they won.
So to see him go up there and get the pictures and all the other stuff, I’m like, oh, come on man. That’s fun. Yeah. Wait a minute, do women wear the hats and it’s kind of a celebration and this one was, I don’t think this was the day before. So Saturday, I think was a pretty big one. Sunday was a smaller in comparison one.
And that’s the one that I went to. That was when I was available, but the horse ran on Sunday anyway. So that’s what I wanted to see was his horse run. So that was So what you just experienced that. Those horse races, the winning ones tie into Gameplay Network because everything that they do is real horse raiding tied into games.
And so anybody that wants to attend any of these webinars, please come. It’s such an incredible experience. It’s so amazing to kind of learn what they’ve done. They talk about the licensing and what’s had to happen. And eventually it’s the only gaming that you can do up in the air and it’s legal. Oh wow.
That is interesting. Only one. Yeah. , let me drop a little, birdie out here is that we might have a podcast host coming on the podcast network. That’s going to be covering some horse racing and other things like that. Like that’s his background. I’m like, Oh, come on. We might have a little bit of, something going here.
We’ll see. I’m like. Leave it to me. Right. I go to one horse race in like five years and all of a sudden the shows being launched for signing people. Ridiculous. That’s the message. They dragged me in. All right. Oh, by the way, for everybody, let’s see. So , this webinar is going to be October 9th, but for all of these as we kind of go through these, like If you just go to losangelesconsultinggroup.
com whether you’re listening to this before the event or even far in the future, you just happen to catch this still go there because there’s the event page on this website is super active. It’s always updated every single month. It’s updated real time. So part of the reason why we do this as a monthly show is because they have so many events.
So I was, I was losing track of time. Myself, we couldn’t do it quarterly or we could do it because they’re always adding, man, there’s a lot, a lot going on here, but let’s fit in some more of these. So that’s it. And you also have a real estate investor reception on October 9th. Oh, is that, that one’s in person, right?
That’s in Beverly Hills. Is that Beverly Hills? Yeah, this is one of my favorites. It’s, we do it quarterly. We get about three to four sponsors and then we host it at different facilities, whether it’s a family office in Beverly Hills or a restaurant. This one is being the facility sponsor is Greenbridge.
And I love these guys. They’ve been sponsors the last four or five years. We’ve done different events with them. The Greenbridge a law firm? I forget. Is it a law firm or a counseling? I forget which one. What is it? Family office development, real estate development Sean and Farid are family to us.
They’re so incredible. This will be our third one at their office and we’ll get about 35 to 40 guests, usually family offices or ultra high net worth real estate investors. So with. Three sponsors, they get to talk a little bit about what their initiatives are, what they’re doing. And then the guests get to talk to each other and meet other real estate investors.
This is not for real estate brokers. This is true real estate investing, , like Crossbeam. And Brad and Ted are real estate investors they’ve sponsored before, but this is a fun event. The food. Oh, my goodness. Sushi. I said that right. I can never say that word. I can’t say it, but I can read it.
Chakootery, if I said it right, but then the Bertha Mays brownies, special wine. Oh, it’s good food. Good food. Speaking of chakootery, I was just looking at my Duck magazine and they were doing, they did a whole spread and all these different boards. And I’m just like, Oh, that’s another episode.
Another time. I want to go off on that tangent, but it was good. I was like, Oh, really? Okay. Thank you. And then it looks like you’re going to be spending some time in nap. You’re doing your neck. Can we call this the Napa tour October 15th through 16th? Like, is that a Napa tour? Do you like autographs around that time?
Like what’s going on? You got to what’s going on there. I see multiple days, multiple events. Yes, yes. So every now and again some of the bigger conference organizations will ask us to help support and share their upcoming events if they’re appropriate for our family office community. And Opal is doing one up in Napa and we have partnered with them before.
We’re happy to bring select family offices and ultra high net worth investors. Again, this is important to have the right guests come because they’ll learn a lot from this conference. We’ve got several of our partners that will be speaking. Dr. Jeremy Lurie is speaking. Jason Ma will be speaking, Uli Maybach of the Maybach family will be speaking.
They’re part of our community and what we’ve decided to do is do a week long tour of , different events. And that’s what’s exciting for us because whenever you can get us into like San Francisco or Chicago or New York for three or four days, we can do a few different events. So when people are flying into town, they have the experience of just not one, but up to three or four events and meet different people at the different events.
Yeah. And, I feel like if there’s some crossover, then deepen some relationships with some other people they may have met , that are realigned. That’s pretty cool. I always like that. Like when you have, because that’s a good thing about like to meet conferences, multiple day conferences when you’re there and you get to see the, some of the same people and connect and start building.
So for this, this is cool also because I see at least three different, there may be more, but a family office reception. Then you have family governance and the family office planning for the next generation. I’m guessing that one with Dr. Jeremy is going to be a little bit more intensive on the programming side.
And then I see the wine tour as well. So that’s just like, I love that wine tour, Adam, let’s talk about the wine tour. So this, this is a winery in Napa Valley called Chapelet and it is a multi generational family. Again, that’s what we support, and we’ve had them speak at a few of our different family office events while doing the wine tour.
This is 1 of my favorite wines, and so to be able to go do a tour, we’ve got a few select seats, and Dr. Jeremy Lurie is hosting this with the core Nora. From private insurance group. And she is a strong friend of ours. We’re excited for this tour and we’re excited to support this family. That’s run this winery for several generations.
So for those that want to learn more about Chapelet wine, please let us know. It’s one of my favorites to give us gifts and then to have a tour. You can do your own tour at the winery. And I tried this Chapelet wine at one of the events. I feel like I have. Yes, it was delicious. And I remember the name.
That’s why I was like, wait a minute. I’ve had this. I feel like he’s, he’s, he’s might’ve poured me some, or maybe you poured me some, somebody poured me some. I remember he had it at the original mixer. He doesn’t pour bad wine. Everybody that’s been listening to the show. They know he’s by now, but he does not pour a bad wine whenever he says, Oh, would you like some, even if I don’t want any, I say yes, because I already know if he’s pouring, it’s going to be good.
It’s been, it’s gone through due diligence by that point. For sure. He won’t put his brand of offering on it. If it’s not, not at all, because he knows we’re going to be talking about him later. Otherwise. All right. So then speaking of the Napa tour going on and it looks like again, that’s October 15th, 16th multiple three of three different events for different and everybody can again, see that on the events page.
And then you’re heading out to Palo Alto right after. Yeah. Yes, before we leave the San Francisco area, our London client, the one that does the art and wine events in London will be flying in for that week, and he is hosting something. That is quite incredible. He’s done it before and he’s asked us to support him.
Wealth in line. So we’ll have, again, probably 30 guests networking, reception, and meeting Bobby Consul, Verna, and one of us. And I love this team. You know, they’re trying to expand into the U. S. and we’re introducing them into the community. If you’re interested and you’re within the space of Family Office Investors, please let us know.
If you’ll be in Palo Alto, we’d love to have you. And then from Palo Alto, and then you’re coming back to SoCal, come on Irvine , with a nice old whiskey Wednesday. I’m noticing a theme here. Wealth, wine, wine, whiskey. Like this is fun, right? Do you notice the theme here? There’s no like baking events or no.
Oh, we talked about it. The charcuterie board. Oh, I got, I think I got it that time. I’m going to go with it. Whiskey Wednesday. Let’s move on before I try to do it again. I love it. I love it. Well, and then we’re i’m so excited because we’re going to then miami At the end of the month and it will be on halloween.
We’re going to miami This will be the third event that we’ve done with outbound invest group investment group Matthew is out of milan. He has these most amazing Conferences, you’re going to meet people from all over the world because his speakers are delegates and diplomats all over the world. And so they’re typically educating you on the 2nd passports.
If you’re interested, they’ll also, they’ll also do global mobility, mastering tax planning, exploring investment, mobility, and the hands. Protection and Strategic Wealth Succession. So all of this is based on a global focus. So we did it during , the milk and week in Los Angeles. Then we flew up to San Francisco and did it.
President Biden showed up at the hotel and wow. Friction about getting in there, but it was great to have them at the event. Oh, I thought it came for you. Oh, I thought he was like, he’s coming to the event. Come on. I got to slip that one in there. You might have, you didn’t know you weren’t, you were busy.
You didn’t have time for him. Go ahead. But Miami, I’m really excited because we’ve done Art Basel there for several years. Oh, and the next show, we’ll talk a little bit about Art Basel, but we’re there October 31st. If you’re going to be in Miami, this is a great event. Go to the website. Please register to join.
This will be a very special event. I didn’t know you did Art Basel every year. Huh? I don’t know why I didn’t know that. We have, I can’t select the date. I can’t select them. I’ve done them three years in a row and then took a little break and now I’ve got several people that want us to do it. So what do you like about that?
I personally just like going and enjoying time down there it’s interesting to even see L. A. people outside of L. A. and everybody goes there. Yeah, it’s just such a different. It’s fun. I just have fun when I go. Yes. Why are you holding the events there again, though?
I think it’s interesting. You know, because people don’t know which events to go to. There’s so much and it’s hard to get around. So if you’ve got somebody that know the different events and can kind of. Create a little bit of a strategy and tell you which events to go to. And then if we attend, we make sure people meet each other.
So usually we’re starting to work on this September 1st. Well, now it’s October 1st. So I am happy to support whoever’s going out to our Basel. We’ll probably I don’t even know when is it? It’s usually the first few days of December. So that’s what it is. Last. Day of November.
First couple days. So we’ll be hearing more about this in next month’s episode. For sure. I’m sure. Yeah, absolutely. I’m supposed to be in Miami in November, mid November. I think the 14th, 15th for deal flow events. They have a big event at what is it? Hollywood, Florida.
Oh, pipe the pipes conference or something I’m covering. So that’s going to be pretty fun at the hard rock out there. I I’d be my first time and I got a crazy story about that. I’m driving to see my mom and this is a true story. Can’t make this up. I’m driving to see my mom. She lives in Florida.
I’m going from Miami to where she lives in Fort Pierce or whatever the name is, something like that. And I see this big old, like, guitar, like, the hard rock there this big old guitar and the lights going up, everything like that. And I’m like, Oh, that’s an interesting, like, hotel. I want to go there one day.
Check it out. , I go back home and to my hotel and I, look in my In my email inbox, and I cannot make this up, I had an email invitation to that exact hotel to cover this conference I’m talking about right now. And I was like, yeah, that’s how I felt. I was like some, I have this belief.
I talk about it on the podcast all the time, Kathleen, that we are exactly where we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be. Like I don’t mean, I’m not talking like macro, like, Oh, am I on the right path in life? Who knows? That’s beyond my comprehension. I’m talking about like my. Physical body is in the exact spot I’m supposed to be at that moment in time.
So when I see signs like that, I’m like, duh. I love it. So the universe opened it up for you. And I just, it was so exciting within an hour. And I looked at the time that we were driving. Cause I didn’t look at my email until like later that night. But then I looked at the time we were driving, I had it calculated.
And I’m like, wow, that was like 45 minutes after I said, I want to go there. I got an email invitation and then I’m reading that invitation later in the evening and it’s like, oh yeah, do you want to come to Hollywood, California to cover this conference? And I’m like, matter of fact, I do. So what does that say, Adam?
I’m sorry, I said Hollywood, California. I’m going to say Hollywood, Florida to cover this conference. Yeah, just to finish that. So what does that say? I mean, to me, it says that we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be. Like our, my, our physical bodies, even if we don’t know the plan, even if we don’t know why we’re supposed to be, we get sick.
We can’t attend something. We don’t get sick. We can’t like I have these occurrences that happen all the time. And the difference is. I really give it like time and space. And then I also repeat the stories on things like this in the podcast to just reaffirm and just to kind of remind me.
And so , I’m thinking about, I should do a book. We are, we’re supposed to be or something. And then just every time I have one of these crazy occurrences, cause I have them all the time and I talk about it all the time, like that, that could be a chapter just tell the story so people can read it and hear like this book of miracles of like, Oh, is it serendipity?
I don’t think so. Is it like chance? No. And I believe that this happens to everybody, but they’re just not They’re not in tune. They’re not paying attention. Most people. So like I could have just as easily have not paid attention to that or made that connection, but I’m trained. So I’m like, Oh, wait a minute.
No, no way. No way. And then I look up the hotel and I’m like, get out of here. Of course, it would be the exact hotel exact place. And I’m going there now in a couple of months. Long Miami story. Sorry, Kathleen, but I had to give it to you. And do you love it? Do you do a lot of events in Miami, like, per year?
I don’t even remember, like We’re always invited to Wait, yeah, a handful. We’re always invited to I mean, you know, there’s only 365 days in the year, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh yeah, no, you’re all over, and you do international events. Thank God Chirag’s not making us do that yet, because I’m like, I don’t know.
We’ll do more Miami events and , we’re expanding more into New York London next year, Singapore, Dubai, we’re adding a Dubai event. Wow. Yeah. I said, yes. Oh, you did. Oh my gosh. Better you than me. Because of your story. What you just said. Don’t doubt it. No, I said. I didn’t doubt it. I didn’t doubt it. I said, better you than me.
I didn’t. But for people like us, we’re like, oh, it’s just too much. Well, the universe wouldn’t provide those opportunities. I agree with that statement. I do agree. And speaking of that, I think we’re going to do one in November in Miami, actually, and I kind of signed my name on it, but kind of didn’t, but kind of did.
So I think it’s going to happen though. More to come if that happens in November, though. Happy to support. Yeah, that’s going to be, that will be interesting if we do it. So then obviously that’s your last event for October. So 31st, they don’t make 32 days for you. Sorry, even though we love Los Angeles consulting group, there’s only 31.
So you got that. As we kind of closed this out, I do want to give a little bit of just foreshadowing, cause I know you’re going to have one of your big core events that come up in January. That’s going to be the original mixer, which is where we met in person for the first time, which is an opulence event as well.
And then, oh, before that though, actually got, you’re going to Vegas too. And for the power of art in November. So I’m sure we’ll talk about it then as well too. But this is good. Maybe let’s end it on on the original mixer. Let’s give a little bit of love there because I want, I want the audience to be ready for this one because people need to be to this one.
I’m going to be to this one. Like for sure. If there’s now, if there’s only one event that I catch, which I catch more than one of your events, but if there’s only one, this is the one I go to. It’s pretty much hand nurtured over 17 plus years. The founder is Brian Rabinowitz, a co founder is Heath Goldman and myself supporting Brian on this event.
We try to do it three times a year. We were going to do it in October and there was just too much too many events that we didn’t think we could do it justice. So it’s Thursday, January 30th. We typically do it at the Luxon sunset. 250 guests. 20 to 25 table exhibitors, and this is such an incredible event to share your message.
If you’re interested in sponsoring, it’s very reasonable. We also do a private reception prior to it, and only 2 hosts or sponsors can sponsor that and then they attend. But if you want more information about the origin mix, or go to our website. You’ve got to be there because it is the beginning of the year.
It’s a great way to launch and start your networking and relationship growth support. Amazing. And for everybody listening, just so you know, we will we’re going to put the, as always the link in the show notes to the Los Angeles consulting group that website. So you can just click on it or obviously go check it out.
And then it’s really easy. Once you get there, you just click on the events tab and you’re going to see everything we’re talking about. And depending on when you’re listening to this. There may be some more events for you to check out. So check that out and speak into the audience if this is your first time with us and you haven’t done it yet Make sure you hit that subscribe or follow button.
This is a daily show each and every day We’re bringing you new content new ideas and hopefully new inspiration to help you along the way on your journey as well So again hit that subscribe or follow button and Kathleen. Oh, man. I don’t know What number is this is like number three four five of this series and I don’t know but You Well, I can’t wait till we’re at 50.
