Hey, I’d like to welcome you to another episode of Mission Matters. My name is Adam Torres and today it is 2025. We’re at the Milken Conference in Beverly Hills, California and I have two guests here, Gary and Mia. Welcome to the show. Thanks for having us. Alright, so we’ve met a couple times now. Yeah. And you’ve gotten one of our, for everybody at home, you can’t see this.
For the people that are watching their YouTube. Our special chip. And you said you have some of these falling outta you Every purse. We change our purses for each event, so I keep finding them in every purse. So, other than to hang out, what brings you to the Milken conference and what brings you to the event tonight?
Well, we are actually sponsoring the event. This is Variety Vault Imports, our company that me and my wife have created by God’s will actually coming together. And, you know, I started the company about last year and I was in China, in Dubai. Mm-hmm. Looking for a very good way to source material. From China to the rest of the world.
And I came back to United States and one of my colleagues said, Hey, you gotta work with this lady named Mia, and this is my wife standing next to me right now. And I said, okay, sure, no problem you now. But I didn’t imagine Mia was, you know who she is. So we started working together and one day I saw her Instagram.
I said, wait a minute. I want to date Mia. So Wow. We started talking and you know, we, we kind of went from there and we talked about our life together and how things, yeah. This is all in the last six months, so I know she rock, you know, has been my friend for the last couple years. We’ve been really close and.
You know, I introduced my wife as he was surprised too. So, yeah, you know, we’ve come together, we’ve formed this company, a variety of all the imports. We have really good key players in it. My nephew Juan and his girlfriend and Ash Juan, you know, doing photography right now. So, you know, I let Mia share a little bit about what we’ve done, but we’ve literally, it’s, this is a family business we call it.
It’s amazing. So not only is just my wife, but it’s also my nephew and, you know. Sisters, brothers, we can bring ’em all together, so that’s awesome. And we are taking on this company because we recently sold our current company that we had. Mm-hmm. We’re using this momentum to go from one sale to another company where we can grow.
The company has a lot of potential, wanting to tap into AI market, vr, ar, so we’re looking at a lot of good ways and Mia can tell you a lot about the developments that we’re doing with the real estate end of it, which is really exciting as well. Tell us about the real estate. Mia, please. Yeah, so Gary’s, that’s Gary’s side on how we met.
And on the other side, I want the other side. I wasn’t gonna say that, but like the other side. I want that one too. The other side we got connected by, a person introducing me to him to share a warehouse to, for products I was bringing in. Wow. To build my new construction house in Houston. And he bring in in material to build his businesses in la Yeah.
So I’m like, I need somebody to share a warehouse with who is importing material from overseas. Not that many people. So I finally heard of someone who is I, I’m like, need to call this guy. We gotta connect. Come on. And we had been in contact, this is a real story. Yeah. So we had both been in contact through phones.
Through just phone calls, conference calls, three way calls, email Wow. Before, so we hadn’t seen each other and got to know each other that way on a business level first, which I think is very important to be able to do that, that business. Connect and find your life. Hey, you got the light, especially being a woman in.
A male dominated industry like that, you do not want to be mixing those two things. Yeah. So it’s important to keep it separate and we got the chance to keep it separate for a while because we were just talking business on the phone before we actually met and decided to come together. We were both on the same path.
Mm-hmm. So let’s do variety volt imports together and now we can extend it to help businesses and help new construction projects and fellow real estate developers get their products. So you already have the mic, so I’ll, I’ll direct this to you first. Mm-hmm. Tell us about some of the projects you’re working on right now.
So like, anything specific you wanna share Right now, the one I’m most excited about is a luxury home in Rice Village in Houston. It’s a beautiful home. It’s similar to this one in, in the design with the arches and the stone, which just for everybody that’s listening to this audio and can’t hear it, we’re in this.
Beau, beautiful house, beautiful Beverly Hills mansion. So it’s not exactly a small home you’re talking about. Yes. It’s gonna be a big house, luxury Texas size. Everything’s bigger in Texas. Okay, so the house is on par for that. Yeah. I’m excited for it. Going from flipping and doing multifamily and distressed properties to now getting into the luxury market.
This is new for me and I’m excited to keep it going, keep the momentum going, and. Partner with some more people to do the build back California. Yeah. Which, as you know, it was a lot of beautiful homes that got burned down. Yeah. Unfortunately. And we wanna be a part of that as variety volt mm-hmm. By bringing the material to get those luxury beautiful homes back up and built and make California coastline beautiful again.
Amazing. Gary, what, what are you working on day to day? I know me is not doing all the work. Come on. What are you working on? Talk to me. So, so recently, you know, I, I grew a business for 15 years Yeah. That I scaled and. In talks with final stages of selling this company private equity, and knowing the recipe, I’ve done that once.
You know, I want to incorporate that in other businesses who want to grow their business and maybe entertain an exit or market strategy in the future. So my game plan is cut the cost, which is the same as what Mia does. Yeah. In terms of she does in a real estate. I do it in private equity business side.
Mm. So I think. Both having this dynamic husband and wife where she can tackle the real estate and I can tackle the business side. We can both grow any kind of a real estate into value. It could be real estate, it could be business, and then we can sell that company to make the profits on the growth and the return on the ROI.
