All right, so today I have Joseph Conger on the line. He goes by Joey and he is the founder and CEO over at Clean Slate Rodent Control.
Joey, welcome to the show. Hey, thanks a lot, Adam. I appreciate you having me on the show. All right, man. So we got a lot to talk about here today. I’m going to be out there podcasting live and supporting the event. And also we got a ton of great vendors, booths, food, all kinds of things out there. And first thing first, Joey, you’re, heading out there. Are you going to have a booth? How are you participating? I want to know, and is this one of your first events or have you been before?
Yeah, that’s correct. So I was at the last one and it was really, really interesting. I was able to network with several other professionals and and so now I am definitely going to get a booth at this this event and I’m excited. And Tony tells me there’s going to be quite a few people there.
So it’s exciting. Yeah, it is. , what brings you back? I know there’s a lot of events, a lot of ways we could spend our time, like , what makes this one special for you? Why are you coming back? Yeah. Yeah. Well first of all, I operate out of the San Gabriel Valley, and it’s in San Gabriel Valley, so it’s perfect location.
And I cover the whole San Gabriel Valley area, so it works out great. I’m looking forward to meeting some professionals, especially networking with people who need the services for rats. 95 percent or more of the companies out there, they have no clue as to how to solve rats. They pretty much put you on a maintenance program.
And use poison and traps, and nobody wants to maintain a rat problem. They want to solve it. If you want to solve a rat problem you call Joey. And and we’ll solve your rat problem 100 percent and we have 100 percent guarantee to get rid of the rats and we give you warranty for the work as well.
Yeah. How’d you get into this business originally? Like, how’d you start? Yeah, so I was actually harvesting and selling clams out of the Sacramento River and What? That’s interesting. How are you? I was just talking about going to Sacramento the other day. I’m like, I want to go visit.
I don’t know if there’s anything in Sacramento, but I might be going, so. Yeah, I started off, You were harvesting clams the other day. Go ahead. I started off on a fishing trip. And I ended up creating a market, and I was the only one in the whole state of California harvesting these clams.
And selling them to the Asian markets and I found out it was seasonal. So, a good friend of mine talked me into getting into the pest control industry. So, I started off as a termite expert and the company that I was working for also did rats. And within three months, I became the number one expert for both rats and termites.
And I soon found out that they had no clue to solve, how to solve the rat problem. , And so I said, you know I think I got something here and I can help a lot of families. So I branched off and started my own company and never looked back. What made you so successful?
I mean, these are pretty competitive industries. Like, what made you so successful here? Well, number one, there’s only one way to solve a rat problem. And that is to do a thorough inspection around the entire exterior of the home, top, bottom, all the way around. And what we do is we find any and all entry points and seal them.
So it basically comes down to who can find all the holes and not miss one. And if you’re the best at finding all the entry points, then you’re going to be the best at solving rat problems. And I soon became the best at finding all the entry points. And it’s like you’re the rat detective. And I had customers.
Man, is that a name of a show? A Netflix show? The Rat Detective? Because if it isn’t, it should be. Yeah, so I, met customers that had other companies, you know, for 10 years or longer that they were dealing with rats and none of the companies could ever solve their problems. And I eventually was able to solve the problems, and that’s when I knew I had something.
I had something different that nobody, you know, really had. And so any hard, difficult, impossible, rap problems that people have, I’m the guy to call. I’ll solve any rap problem, anywhere, anytime. Hmm. And like what, drives you to do that? Like , what makes you like, you’re the fixer in this one.
You’re like, you got a problem. It’s a bad one. I want it. Like what drives you to do that? What motivates you to do that? Yeah. So first of all, we take care of ourselves. The number one asset is. Our, own life. And from there, if we have a family, we take care of our family and we build these homes to protect our family.
And unfortunately, our homes are being invaded and destroyed by rats. And so, if I can help my family and I can help your family and that, and that brings satisfaction and joy. You know, there’s nothing like seeing a happy family, rat free. After you know, going through such a disaster they can share their joy and it just, it’s just a happy moment.
So , that happiness and, satisfying people, that’s what drives me. Now, what do you work on commercial, residential, both, whatever, like give us a flavor for that. Yeah. So mostly residential. I do some commercial. Not so much like the restaurants and food industries because the key factor besides filling up all the entry points is making sure there’s absolutely no competing food sources for them to survive.
And unfortunately, a lot of the restaurants, that’s all they have inside is food. So that’s more of a maintenance. It’s more of a never ending problem. so I stay away from restaurants because there’s always food. But residentials, 100 percent is what I focus on and so everybody has rats.
Every single house in California has either had rats, has them now, or is going to get them. so you’re also working, it sounds like, on the preventive side too, huh? Correct. So we work on referrals. So if you have rats at your home, and we solved your rat problem, a lot of times people have neighbors, friends, coworkers, family in the area, and even though they may not have rats, they 100 percent need to protect their homes and prevent them from having rats.
And after the homeowners suffer from the rat situation. They want to help their neighbors and their friends as well. Yeah, it’s awesome. Well, Joey you’re heading to the Megamix Expo. I am too.
