Liz, welcome to the show. Hey, Adam, thanks so much for having me. All right, Liz, so I’m getting pretty excited here. We’re getting closer and closer to the Megamix Expo. I understand that you’re going to be one of the exhibitors there. And for my, for the audience, for those that have been listening to this series for a long time now you may be aware or you may not.
And if you haven’t gotten your ticket, go get that ticket. The Megamix Expo is a two day event. It’s going to happen on March 12th and March 13th at the Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. You can grab your tickets at Megamix Expo. And Liz, correct me if I’m wrong. You’re going to be there, right?
You’re exhibiting. We’re going to meet, right? That’s right. We’re going to have a ton of fun and can’t wait to rebuild and build LA, especially during these times. Yes. Have you been to Megamix Expo before, or is this your first time? This will be my first time. I’m so excited. I’ve heard incredible things about it from friends and business owners before.
I know there’s going to be a ton of entrepreneurs from all over Southern California and people even driving in from Las Vegas and Northern California to be there. So I just. Can’t wait. Yeah, I’m pretty excited too. And cover conferences all over the place and I’m actually in Vegas right now recording this one but I’m out of California since I’ve been interviewing the vendors, the VIPs, and all the people that are really participating in it, I could see like the heart, the spirit behind it.
And now there’s this overlay as well of people coming back together to rebuild LA. Are you an LA native? Are you from LA or been there a Well, I consider myself a native Southern Californian. I’m in Orange County, but You know a lot of my family’s in Los Angeles and a lot of my friends were there I’ve been here for the last 25 years from New Jersey, and I’ve just Seeing what’s happening.
And it’s also nice to see the community come together as well to serve to help each other out. And people are just willing to do whatever they can to help everybody who lost so much during the fires. So, looking forward to this mega mix expo to really come together as small businesses as well that were affected during the fires to really help support them.
And so tell me a little bit more about legal shield and kind of like what you’ll be showcasing at the event. Yeah, well, our mission at legal shield really is to build a better world where access to justice is equal for every human here at legal shield. We believe that every person, family and business owner should have affordable access to legal services.
And through LegalShield some of the largest and most powerful firms in the nation, starting for a dollar a day, that they otherwise could never afford, you know, because most lawyers need to charge 300 an hour or more, and of course, in Southern California some start at 500 to 700 an hour to cover their expenses, their time, their expertise, you know.
But unfortunately, only the extremely wealthy can afford this. So what about the rest of North America? And that’s where we come in. How’d you get involved in this business? Oh, my gosh. Well, I have always, always believed in standing up for people speaking up for people growing up. I was a 4 foot 5 inch teenager standing with my hands on my hip.
standing in between a bully that was picking on somebody smaller than him, you know, looking up at him six feet tall, hovering over me. And when I discovered our company’s mission, I actually had a friend that was getting help from legal shield. And when I learned how they were able to help navigate through her divorce and that it didn’t cost her an arm and a leg, I just, fell in love with the mission and ever since then 21 years later, it’s been my daily passion, community service, mission field, but of course an independent business owner.
Yeah. What’s your favorite part about working for the company? Like, what’s your favorite part in representing their products? Oh my gosh. Well, I love that we get to help whether it’s a single mom who would never have been able to afford our services to a big company or business owner that the value and being smart with their money to be able to have.
These services and we’ve been able to write demand letters on their behalf, you know, I’ll give you an example, one of the people we’ve been able to help is my housekeeper who her daughter ended up having a baby senior year in high school and needing to get wanting to graduate, but she missed her final exams because she was in the hospital delivering a baby and you would think that most people would be.
Obviously very understanding of the situation, but there was one teacher that was not as understanding and it was almost like she felt she was being discriminated against for the situation that she was in. And instead of allowing her to make up the finals she made it very difficult for her.
I won’t go into the full details of the situation. But. My housekeeper just kept saying and she thought that I was an actual attorney. So I’m a representative for the company that helps put people in touch with our attorneys. So they would go through me first, so she said, legal, legal, she saw my stuff all over the house.
The brochure is my business card. She’s like, are you. This is what’s happening to my daughter and she just needs to graduate school so she could focus on being a mom and get a job. And so we were able to help her, I put her in touch with one of the most powerful law firms in Los Angeles, California, a big firm, 80 attorneys in the firm.
And they wrote a very strong, demanding letter on her behalf to the teacher, the school, the school district, everything. And needless to say, she was able to retake the test, graduate, and you know, now she is a happy and fruitful mother, and it’s just beautiful. And so, I guess I could say that is one of the favorite things that I love about being a part of what we do, because we get to help people like that every day.
Um, And you mentioned something about maybe I caught it wrong, like a dollar a day or what does something, a service like this cost? Our services for families and individuals start out at 29 a month, so it costs a little bit around a dollar a day for a whole family to get legal advice, to have us review contracts on their behalf, to write demand letters on their behalf, and then represent.
Then in court for things like being sued, or you get a traffic ticket or you know, something like that. So it’s affordable for, families. And then for business owners, we also have add on for business owners as well. That needs to maybe they’re starting a business and need to form an LLC, or they need contracts reviewed or drafted on their behalf.
We have different plans for them as well. Well, so we have a pretty large business owner audience of entrepreneurs and executives as well. what are those type of plans look like? I’m curious. Yes. Well, we have amazing business plans that you can add on to a family plan. For starting at 29 a month for the business side as well.
And then we have bigger business plans that range up to 169 a month that also include legal defense, if you’re ever sued. So a hundred hours pre paid or on the books, but just to give you an example, we have a general contractor that has one of our very basic plans of 49 a month for his business. And general contractors, they, do the work before they get paid the money.
In those cases, and so he had a lot of clients that had not paid their bills and invoices for months and, he has to survive. So, he became a member of LegalShield and we started writing debt collection letters on his behalf, included. In the basic small business plan, which is just 49 a month. And we started collecting on his you know, for his accounts receivable.
And the first one started coming in and we were able to collect 17, 000. Then the next one started coming in, 35, 000 and over a two year period of time, we were able to help him get 200, 000 in accounts receivable, all of which he got the case. Because our attorneys don’t take a percentage. It’s prepaid for included in the membership services.
Wow. That’s amazing. I mean, it seems very reasonable both on the family side and on the business side. So like it seems like most businesses can afford that. And in terms of families, I know, it’s still an expense, but it’s not compared to actually having to pay a lawyer out.
Like , that’s a very small expense. Like , why do people not do that? I’m just curious on that end, like you’ve been doing this a long time, what are the excuses? Why does somebody not do this? Yes. That’s what I said. Well, a lot of the times when people hear about it, they’re like, how come I didn’t know about this?
People just don’t know about it. And that’s what makes. My job, very exciting that I’m out there on the mission field every day, educating people that they too can have access to affordable legal help. They don’t need to have millions of dollars on the bank to be able to afford attorneys and. You know that they should be using it too.
So I feel the same way. Okay. I was just making sure I wasn’t missing anything. I’m like, wait a minute. The example you just gave with the contract, it’s like, all right, so let’s see it for a couple hundred bucks, which I’m rounding up. it’s not that much for what you described, but I rounded up a little bit, but even for that, like, let’s see 10 years.
Collected 200, 000. I’m just trying to do the math. I’m not that going to do it, but you know, he’s got quite a bit of a time. And, also, that’s just one scenario. It’s not in more things happen in the future because we’re in business and that’s what happens, right? You have a team now that’s worked with you and otherwise, am I missing anything?
Am I off on that? No, you’re absolutely right. It’s literally like having a whole network of law firms on retainer for you. It’s as if having them on your payroll for, one to 3 a day. Well, Liz, this has been great. I’m definitely going to stop by your booth when we get to the Megamix Expo that’s coming up.
