Have you ever considered trading futures? Would you know where to start? In this episode, Adam Torres and Dan O’Brien, Co-Founder at Target Trading Academy, explore trading futures, the types of investors it’s suitable for, and why it may be a good way to diversify an overall investment portfolio.
About Dan O’Brien
I have been in the futures industry since 1996. Like many others in the industry, I started out as a Series 3 broker and grew as a futures professional.
I started my own brokerage firm in 1998, which was successful for seven years. From there, I joined a larger firm, LaSalle Futures, to help it grow with my technical expertise and overall market knowledge.
As time went on, however, I wanted to expand in the industry and started a CTA firm – Global Asset Investment, LLC with Don Miro, PhD. Unfortunately, starting this management firm in 2006 was bad timing, since it was the year before the “great recession” began. Although the media pegs the start of the “great recession” in 2008, I can tell you they are wrong; it started in the summer of 2007 as the first hedge funds that had been overweight CDOs (etc) went bust. It only began to accelerate in 2008!
From 2008 to 2018 I worked at some of the largest futures educational firms in the industry. In late 2018 I co-founded Target Trading Academy.
