All right, so today I have Yvonne LaRose on the line, and she’s the owner and also a consultant over at Consultants Desk.
Yvonne, welcome to the show. Thank you. Thank you. I’m very excited to be here. All right, and correct me if I’m wrong, you’re going to be participating in the Megamix Expo, correct? That’s how you found us? That is correct. I am looking forward to this Megamix Expo because everything about leading up to it has been so phenomenal as far as organization development, promoting people getting connected with one another and, It’s just been laid out so well, but that goes back to what I do, which is I used to use the title of an organization development consultant, and people kept getting confused about what that means. But then I started seeing others who are in that same space and I thought. Okay, I need to find you later.
Now, how did you originally learn about Megamix Exploit? This is your first year, am I off on that? I think it is your first year, yeah? This is my first year, my first time being It’s my first year too, by the way, so we’re a tie on this one. So we’re both learning together here, but I’ve been doing a bunch of interviews and I can tell you, like, the community, all the people around it, I mean, this is going to be a huge, huge event.
And for one, one quick thing, let me backtrack actually, I forgot to mention, for my new listeners just so you know, you can find the information about the event we’re talking about right now [email protected], and it’s gonna be March 12th and 13th. I’ll be on site and I’ll be live doing a bunch of podcast interviews and really having all kinds of fun just to getting out in the community, shaking some hands and and meeting people.
Of course, love to get out in the community when I can. So, okay, I, I forgot to mention that at the beginning, Yvonne, but circling back what I was mentioning so this is your, your. And and kind of what organization development, what else? I specialize in Title VII protected classes, helping to screen.
And then if there’s, are tweaks that, well, helping to screen, helping to make the decisions about the best candidate for the, job, not the applicant, but the candidate. And then once they’re on board, making sure that things are going so that You retain that, that prime hire who’s holding out your brand as B Best and wants, wants to help you attract repeat business and new business, but also keeping them motivated to stick with the company because they are invested in the welfare and the, and the growth of the company.
Yeah. With my mediator hat on, I go, I can take a look at some of the things that where communication needs to be tweaked and done in a tactful way so that you’ve got not only good communication with your customers and clients. But also with your staff and, management, so it all comes together to make a very vibrant business.
how did you originally get into this business? my original path was to get my law degree two years in law school. And some things came up and I needed to step away, life goes on and you have to pay bills. That’s true. And so the first employment opportunity I found was with a third party.
Recruiter, and I was the coordinator between the client and the and the candidate as far as setting up the interviews and then getting them hired and screening the, the resumes as they were coming in. And then that employer wanted me to get involved with learning, going to 1 of the recruiting so that I could learn more about recruiting and then convey the information to him.
Well, I started getting so involved in that, I became a columnist in several recruiting publications, and then it just kept sagging that way, and They sucked you in? With my legal background, coupled with the recruiting aspect, I took the staffing professionals certification exam, got my certification, and well, so I still focus on the legal aspect perspectives, the the things that people don’t think of.
and, and then they become a surprise if they haven’t taken the, There’s the positive side and the negative side and a lot of times people just screen out the negative and, oh, that’s not gonna happen to me. But you need to think about those, negatives that are potentially coming so that you have the alternative B.
And what are some of those, by the way? What are some of those negatives so people understand what you’re saying? Okay, so you look at the hire or you do not hire someone who is, say, a woman for a management position. Or you do not hire a person who has some form of an impairment. Because you think, oh, it’s going to be too costly.
I’m going to have insurance costs. and. maybe that person is a valuable asset. Don’t put yourself out there so that you’re facing EEOC claims for either failure to hire or failure to advance. Take a look at those, situations. Even locally, I’ve been an advocate for a number of things, and I’ve seen a lot of changes in the way the community has been handling themselves.
For example, with Regarding accessibility, up a number of times so that before you would see people trying to struggle up stairs and they were doing it alone. That was four years ago. This last year and this year, you see a person going up trying to make it up a stairs with walker or crutches and there was one day I saw A relay of people helping the person up the flight of stairs.
It was fantastic and people passing comments about to one another about, Oh, my father uses a walker and he keeps saying, no, no, no, I don’t need help, but don’t drop my stuff. And so that brings together seeing good community and unity. And strength of everybody working together and recently there were some talks about construction and, improvement programs in the city and no one looked at the downsides as far as that would come up and then it was a surprise and became costly because things had to be redone.
So I help people. Look, and someone praised me at a meeting once, saying, you know, Yvonne, I like the way you look at the other side of the picture, so that we’re aware of what we need to be paying attention to, so it doesn’t come as a surprise. That’s my nature. You gotta see both sides of the picture.
it’s not a glass half full. It’s not a glass half empty. It’s a glass holding water. Yeah, I see it. I see it and what size of businesses do you typically work with? what size of businesses, types of businesses? It does, the size does not matter.
One of the things I focus on, in fact, there’s a government department that I’ve been working with for the past three years, I think it is. And it’s the department, not the entire government. And so I focus on the, size VAPID department is about 30, including professional and, And it’s just a matter of looking at, taking a look from the outsider’s perspective, then asking questions, asking questions to get clarity, and then hearing what the concerns are, what the concerns are.
And then leaving them and with that department, they had, a lot of complaints, which caused me to step forward, working with them and I started experiencing some of the, the issues that were happening. I connected with one of the upper management personnel and we worked out a strategy for doing the, my providing training and, input for improvements.
And 95 percent improvement. And Mm hmm. It, it’s been extremely helpful to the entire community and I, I’m gratified amazing . So, Yvonne, that’s an amazing story. And and I know you’re gonna be at the expo and, but in the meantime, if and I’ll be there too, as I mentioned to, to the audience.
In the meantime though, if somebody wants to follow up, if they wanna learn more and connect with you and your team, how do they do that? They can call me. my number is.
