Hey, I’d like to welcome you to another episode of Mission Matters. My name is Adam Torres, and if you’d like to apply to be a guest in the show, just head on over to missionmatters. com and click on be our guest to apply. All right. So today I have Ami Maoda on the line and he is the co founder and CMO over at littleone. care.
Ami, welcome to the show. Thank you for hosting me, Adam. All right. Well, we have a lot to talk about today. So I want to get into, of course, Alora. I want to get into littleone. care and really how you’re helping , in the pregnancy sector and industry, and also with baby wellness and monitoring.
So we got a lot to talk about today, but to get us kicked off I’ll start with our Mission Matters Minute. So Ami, at Mission Matters, our aim and our goal is to amplify stories for entrepreneurs like yourself, for business owners, for experts. So that’s what we work on and that’s what we do.
Ami, what mission matters to you? Well, we would like to create a world where babies and the first two years of life we would like to impact this period of time, which is very, very crucial and important. when we started and we discussed what we would like to do, because when you use AI, you can do the very same thing with old people, with the different kinds of ages, adult people.
But we decided to work with babies because the impact is going to be tremendous. And unique. And our goal is to enable any parents in the world, especially working parents who have tools that will enable them to feel that they’re doing the best for the kids. How did you originally like, were you an entrepreneur always?
Have you had companies prior to this or is this the first one? Oh, no, it’s my first company. Most of my life was dedicated to digital analytics marketing. But it’s the very first time I’m involved in a company where we are actually developing and working over a hardware device.
side by side , with an application and you know, as an entrepreneur, when you look for example, other companies that created the Apple watch or similar products, when you ask, okay, how many people they have on the team around 1000. So we look at each other and said, we will manage with six, you know, this is the way we started.
you have to do that kind of things. It’s beyond business plans. It’s beyond. The excel sheets that tells you that is going to be much more challenging than any other company because the vision here and what we want to achieve made us understand that we have to do it Anyway, and we started with investment of abc but very fast later we understood that we need Have more investments and to start more and more parents and we already sell the product right now in the usa Which is a very important milestone in the company, , development.
, where did the original idea come from? like how did the company, like in the beginning, you’re like, how’d you come to this idea? Well, my partner is the CEO of the company and He’s a very talented person from the technical point of view. he was involved in many, in development of many devices in the army.
And when he approached me, he approached me because I have a lot of experience in the area of developing content for babies, activities for babies in my past as an employee. So when he approached me, he came with an idea of bracelets. That was supposed to be attached to the baby’s leg and I was thinking that is not the right thing And together which I like about working with people like him Is the ability not to fall in love with an idea is to create a community of people that you talk to And , I actually forced our team not to write any line of code before we create a community of parents and to discuss with them any aspect of the product for the last four years, we have always, always around 30.
Families that work with us from Israel, from the U S and elsewhere in the world, different cultures, different, ways of different approaches of baby experts in parents and anything we have done, any feature, any functionality, we ask them first, we ask the parents separately from the baby experts and combine the answers because sometimes the parents want one thing and they do not understand that the experts from their, from their, The way they see it, it might be not the exact thing they need.
So this type of discussion created a mechanism where we developed the product with the parents and the baby experts. We had actually four different versions. Alpha trial, better trial, early adopter. Mm-hmm . And the, the first MVP that became a real product that we manufacture in the east in Hong Kong.
Mm-hmm . And actually, a sale in the US. So where does the product stand today? Like we’ll go a little bit further into the functionality of it. Well try to imagine a smartwatch without a screen because the baby doesn’t look at the time when he has to cry at 2 a. m. And with no WhatsApp or with no any, I am, he doesn’t need to text to his friend.
I just pull. What about you? The whole idea is to have everything you’re supposed to have. In a smartwatch, but the presentation is at the parent’s application. What do we do? We have two main sensors that track the sounds around the baby sensor is attached. The Elora is attached to the baby’s shirt. We can tell a lot of things about the acceleration of the torso of the baby.
So it’s very simple. It’s very, very simple sensors, sound and motion, but together and the synchronization of them actually take us into the secret world of babies. I will explain. Due to the motion, we can tell if the baby is sleeping because the belly goes up and down and nothing is happening for the next two hours.
So there I understand and already tells, okay, the baby was asleep. But if the baby rolled to the left and didn’t roll to the right, we know that either if you rock the baby, if the baby was in the stroller or in the car, different acceleration, if the baby, is crawling, if the baby is God forbid, somebody shake the baby.
Okay, we’ll be talking about that kind of that dimension of Safety features that we added to the product, but due to the acceleration, we can tell a lot about the statuses of the baby. At the very same time, synchronized to that, we know if the baby is crying, if you laugh with your baby, if you talk to your baby, we don’t know what you said, we don’t care what you said, but we know that you talked to your baby, which is very important.
We know if you sang to your baby, but If we go back to the safety features, we know somebody is screaming at your baby. For the very first time, we created the baby monitor that goes with the baby anywhere you can imagine to the daycare, to your parents in law, with the babysitter in the living room, when you are with your spouse out from the house.
together, and we created a product that tells you so many things about your baby. I will cover the features of safety because I’m sorry to say any baby monitor nowadays deals with the night sleep of the baby. You know, that accident, I’m sorry to say that might happen anywhere, not just during the night sleep and not just in the baby’s bedroom.
So try to imagine that we know if somebody is shaking your baby, if the device doesn’t detect any motion during the night sleep or if your baby fall asleep in the living room, but we can tell if somebody shake your baby, if the baby fall from the changing table, if somebody actually treats your baby in aggressive care, like if the baby in the very, in a very rude way.
Yeah. Yeah. Or if the baby is crying and nobody approaching for unreasonable periods of time. It’s actually, we combined the safety features with the quality of care that you believe that your baby’s supposed to receive and do not get. And we know that it has a tremendous impact on the baby’s sense of well being.
The baby cannot complain, but we would like to I know that something wrong is happening. So we took the safety feature and created an umbrella of features that will protect your baby on one end. And on the monitoring side, I know the, part that the baby is wearing is not that obviously doesn’t have or need a screen.
And does this connect to like an app or like talk about the data or the UX, like the interface. This is the amazing parts. Any baby monitor we know usually designed with. live streaming of Bluetooth or Always connected to the Wi Fi and since we talk with parents, we realized that most parents won’t like it.
Although they will use their cell phones next to the babies. They will use their the smartwatch Well, they are the babies, but they would do not want their babies to have any radiation from, they don’t want to be walking transmitters. Okay. Yes. Yes. I, and so, so you have two options to ignore them and tell them that this energy it’s very low on the other hand, you need to listen to them.
And this is what we have done. So we designed our Elora in a way that it’s collect data when you wear it. No transmission is just collect data. Screen. , no energy. That’s why the Elora can hold for 24 hours and even more, whatever you’re going to do with it, the parents have the ability to choose from the application.
If they want. in real time, in case of emergencies, to receive one ping. In case that somebody is screaming at the baby, or the baby is falling, or, from a changing table, or somebody is shaking the baby, whatever. They can decide, they can decide what they want to get. And open the, the antenna, we send one ping to the local wifi to tell you whatever you are and say that something goes, wrong.
It’s their decision to make, and it’s not live streaming all the time. Got it. Okay. So, and that makes sense too. So it’s kind of almost like a notifications on a cell phone or on something else, like an app you have, it’s like, okay, you’re going to opt into what settings you want for your baby.
That’s awesome. Yeah. And the default. We believe, but when I say we believe, , we believe that any, any methodology of parenting is good, but we believe the default supposed to address the majority of the parents. This is one thing. The other thing that comes with that is when you put the Elora.
In the docking station at the end of the day, when, for instance, you go to take your baby to take a shower and you have like 40 minutes that your baby is with you in the shower and you cannot wear the Elora. So we use the charging time to upload the data. Later on, when you look at your application, you can see.
Whatever happened with your baby, when he was asleep, when he was playing, how active was your baby, how much you talk to him. And it’s like any other application that smartwatch. We can, if your smartwatch tells you how many steps you had today, you will know how many words your baby had today. And, and you say, Oh, why it’s important.
It’s so important to talk to your baby. It’s so important to play with your baby. For instance, World Health Organization complains that we do not play enough with our babies and that’s why we have more and more overweight kids in the elementary school. We don’t play with our babies. We talk, we are, we are at home, but we talk with, at the Zoom all day instead of playing with our babies.
And they try to play many occasions, they’re stuck in the crib, you give them an iPad, they play and you don’t pay attention. They spend two hours instead of crawling and doing something. Mm hmm. They’re, they’re stuck and they enjoy the time, but it’s not What they supposed to do so for the parents, because we collect a lot of data, we provide a very interesting reports.
We design the system in a way where parents will be, will be able to be exposed to the data, but not to make decisions. worry, because of the data, I will explain, no reason to tell you how much your baby cried today, why, or comparison to other kids, how much she’s crying, no reason to make it, you know, why you cannot do anything about that.
if you have an annoying, sorry for saying that. I’m sorry. But it’s personality, this baby needs more attention. So what you’re going to do about that? Yeah, it’s won’t add anything to you. It won’t add anything to your energy and motivation. On the other hand, If you will receive a report that will show you how many words your baby Heard today or how much he played today or we have another sensor that tracks the equality around the baby 24 7 That kind of reports will tell you immediately Let’s we call them call to action reports.
You will understand what you’re supposed to do tomorrow and you fix it The reason we would like to work with call to action reports. It’s very simple. You have only First two years of life that you can do your best for your baby in order to buy them and Many researchers that shows how much the well being in these early stages the impact of them is for the entire life for the wellness of the general health, mental health, your ability to communicate and compromise and to be , kind to other people.
So this is the other thing we provided. The other innovation we created again, because of the communication with the group of parents, was to enable any caregiver, random babysitter can give in the daycare, your grandma, they can pop on their Elora very, in a very gentle way. And when they pop on it, they can say, Oh, I just changed the diaper.
It was dry. Oh, we had first time banana. You can tell your baby what you have done. So two reasons. The technological reason is to help the parents, because the moment you say that, it’s converted to speech to text. You’re going to see it in the app later on when you change the diaper for the baby and whatever you have done.
But again, it brings us to the very first thing we want you to do. Talk to your baby. Talk to your baby. Tell your baby the world. Wow, that’s amazing. And so, I think you mentioned it, but , what ages is this appropriate to wear? The very first version of Elora is for the first 24 months.
We prefer parents to purchase the Elora during the pregnancy because it will enable the mom, as a pregnant woman, to track her own lifestyle, her own sleeping pattern, her own nutrition and activity and socializing. With this data set, after the due date, You can transfer the Elora to your baby and in the app you collected, I think now, and people don’t understand the impact of AI in the long term.
Mm-hmm . That kind of data. I think that in the future will serve people in ways that we don’t even understand how important they are. Totally agree with that. Yeah, , I totally agree with that, and I think you also created the best baby shower gift on the planet. Am I off ? Thank you. That’s amazing. Well, I mean, this has been, first off, an amazing education , on what, you know, I’m thinking about , how right, that data and what’s going to happen with that in the long term and with more babies and all the other things that you see, like, that’s going to be an amazing, amazing, like treasure trove of data that can be used.
, I agree in the immediate, there’s a lot of impact that this is going to do. And especially just for the monitoring side of things that you mentioned and being able to upload, like this is a super smart product. It’s interesting. And one that I’m happy to bring to my audience.
What if somebody is listening or watching this and if they want to pick up an Allura to learn more, like how do they do that? Well first of all, thank you for asking that you can access littleone. care website. You will find a huge website with one product. And but why it’s a huge website because it’s not just about the product.
It’s about Your , way of leading in terms of how do I want to raise my kids? Mm-hmm. I’m a working parent, I’m a single mom. How do you want to do that? So this website tells you a lot about the application, about the product, the functionalities, why it’s safe, , how we. Privacy, because we are very strict about that and enables you even to understand that beyond the application we have within the application, a lot of baby experts that you can communicate immediately over the data set of your baby.
It’s beyond the product itself. We wanted to create a solution that will enable you as the parents to understand that if in the past you used to live in the village and to raise the kids. Now the village, together with AI, is within this app. Yeah, it’s amazing. And for everybody listening, just so you know, we’ll definitely put the links , in the show notes so you can just click on the link and head right on over to littleone.
