What is the EndoCannabinoid System and why is it important? In this episode, Adam Torres and Heather Reilly Hiemstra, Founder of Rockstar Roll On, LLC with Rockstar Blends, explore feeling happy and balanced, sexy and vibrant.
About Heather Hiemstra
With a background in music, business and chemistry, Hiemstra began to experiment with botanicals on her own and soon started Rockstar Botanicals. “A rockstar is someone who will show up day after day and just rocks it. They show up and make people feel good,” she shares. “That’s why my formulas are called Rockstars.”
A world traveler, Hiemstra finally planted roots in Sarasota in 2015, where she refined her botanical formulas and registered Rockstar Botanicals as an LLC in 2018. She began participating in expos and events at the International Aestheticians Cosmetologists and Spa Conference and In New York City, where Amazon and ABC Carpet and Home picked-up her line of non-hemp products. When Covid hit, Rockstar Botanicals was marketed by word of mouth, and rave reviews from clients.
Rockstar Botanical roll ons are available through the company’s website: rockstarblends.com. There, you can find the Rockstar Roll On Original, made of the terpenes from lavender, blue yarrow, juniper berry, and 15 other botanicals that help battle inflammation and promote healthier, glowing skin. Hiemstra, however, is most excited about the Rockstar Woman formula. This unique topical blend is an intimate oil that includes phytocannabinoids that absorb through the skin’s endocannabinoid receptors to foster hormone balance, sexual and immune system function, and libido,” she explains, “The endocannabinoid system is nourished and primarily functions to achieve homeostasis, to achieve balance. What looks like balance is a stable mood, appetite, sleep pattern, and yes, a balanced libido. As women age, things become painful, and we are not addressing it as a society.” Hiemstra explains, “All you have to do is nourish the cells–that was the basic premise of Rockstar Botanicals.”

Hey, I’d like to welcome you to another episode of Mission Matters. My name is Adam Torres, and if you’d like to apply to be a guest on the show, just head on over to missionmatters. com and click on be our guest to apply. All right, so today I have Heather Riley Heemstra on the line, and she’s a founder of Rockstar Roll On, and we’re going to talk today about those Rockstar blends that have been created, and also So we got some other things we’ll talk about, specifically sex, menopause, and the endocannabinoid system.
What even is the endocannabinoid system? It’s a long word, but first thing first, Heather, welcome to the show. Well, thank you, Adam. I am thrilled to be here. And yeah, let’s just dive right in because people hear endocannabinoid system and they say, well, what is this? So this is a system that exists in everybody’s body.
If you are a mammal, you have an endocannabinoid system. Now, okay, like, why are we just hearing about this now? Because they only discovered this system in the past 60 years. You know, when I was growing up, I have a whole family of doctors, and they were always like, you should go into medicine. I said, I’m not going to go in and just take everything you guys have learned and just And here I am like the ground of these, these amazing functions of the endocannabinoid system.
Okay. So that all came out wrong, but the endocannabinoid system is in our bodies. And what it does is it works right alongside with your endocrine system and your neurological system and your nervous system and your gastrointestinal system and all the rest of them. And it’s primary. It’s primary. Main function in the body is to help you feel balanced.
Doctors literally call it a system of homeostasis. So what does that look like? That means this system affects your mood, your libido. It affects your body temperature. If you’re too hot, your endocannabinoid system will fire and say, Hey, we need to cool her down or vice versa. It affects your response to pain.
It affects your response to inflammatory conditions. It affects your sleep, your appetite. I think I already said mood, libido. It’s extraordinary. And it’s a simple system. We have receptors, and funny enough, these receptors are located all throughout the body. And they live mostly where your lymphatic system lives.
So, a lot of us are starting, lymphatic system is a big buzzword these days. Let’s drain your lymph, gua sha, you know, for health, for, for beauty, for de puffing. It’s basically a way of, like, cleansing. The stuff that we filter through every single day. And so, by activating this system, this endocannabinoid system, by activating these receptors found throughout the body, inside and outside, We can assist our body in all of those functions that I just talked about, which is just extraordinary if you think about.
I mean, first of all, when I list all those things, do any of those complaints sound like anything, you know, like maybe menopause? Right, like the menopause thing, like no libido. And oh, and I also forgot to mention that the endocannabinoid system regulates your, your blood pressure. So, we have all of these functions of this system that we’re looking at and saying, wow, how can we help people?
And I’m looking at it from, how can we help women as they age, as they go through menopause, how can we help them so that they feel balanced? We have this system whose whole function is bringing balance to our bodies. And we are only just learning. I always say the worst thing that ever happened to this system is they put the word cannabis in the middle of it.
So everybody goes, Oh, it’s about cannabis, but it’s not cannabinoids exist in other plants. You don’t need cannabis to activate the endocannabinoid system. Now there’s receptors in our brain, which is why smoking cannabis or imbibing that way affects you, in that way through your head and the neurological level.
But I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about balancing the body. Yeah. So I hope I didn’t go too science on that. And Heather, , like, where did all this start for you? Like when did, what got you into this business and really kind of on this path of wanting to help educate people about this?
So in 2006, I was 37 years old. Newborn baby, he was nine months old and I had a big huge tumor sticking out of my stomach. It had grown through the wall of my colon and perforated the colon and I had colon cancer. So they immediately saved my life. They cut that tumor out. They sewed me back together.
I was a little bit of a modern miracle, right? Just sent me on my way and said, now have chemo. And I said, Oh, I can’t, I have to nurse the baby. And I said, Oh, well, no, that’s not an option. You have to have the chemo. And you know, you don’t tell a postpartum woman anything, but what she wants to hear. And I was going to nurse the baby and give him good gut health.
So I had a couple of doctors turn me away, said, we can’t even take you. There’s nothing we can do for you if you don’t want the chemo. But the third one said, well, you’re sort of a pain in the neck. You really should have the chemo. But if you’re not gonna, let’s start teaching you about things you can do on a daily basis.
And. The one thing that he said to me that just rings true so much every day, he said, if you don’t clean your kitchen, For five, six days in a row, what happens? It’s disgusting. It’s a mess. It’s harder to clean it. Treat your body the same way. So he started teaching me about plants, just botanicals that I could apply somewhere, essential oils, critical extracts, hydrogels, different plants.
that tell the lymphatic system to drain. He said, kept saying to me, Heather, I don’t know why he got cancer, no family history, skinny vegetarian, all that. He said, and you’re so young, he said, but any virus, any bacteria, any pathogen can just make a cell go rogue at any time and then, oh, that cell tells the next cell, Hey buddy, I’m going rogue.
You want to go with me before you know, , you’ve got a tumor developing, I mean, that’s a real simple way of looking at it, but it spoke to me. And so I just started working with these botanicals and one day I said to him, okay, so I’ve got these great botanicals and I was using them all over, you know, and of course now we’re just speaking as friends, Adam, anecdotally, because he has to be unhappy with me otherwise, but I basically, We’re using these botanicals to prevent a reoccurrence of cancer.
I was really hardcore because six months after I had the tumor removed, I thought I had cancer again. I was tired and bloated and I had a lump and it turns out she’s now 16 years old. So I have another one come along right away and two kids, two, two years and two days apart. And I was like, wow, have you got to take this really seriously?
So I’m working with these botanicals and one day I say to my, my doctor. Mind you, this is just a regular allopathic, you know, amazing doctor, but still not holistic. I think he, I said to him, hey, if I put these botanicals you’re telling me about, if I put them right on the very tender, Then receptive tissues of my vulva and my vagina it will get right into my system and he looked at me You know, I thought of this poor man.
He goes Heather. You’re so crazy And he said but you know, you’re right. You’re right. You’re actually right And so that is how rockstar woman came to be And again, if you had told me back then that I would be on national stages talking to people about, you know, putting these botanicals on their very intimate area and telling women, take care of that part of your body now so you don’t have to do it later.
And of course I’m on stage and I’m using the vernacular and everything, just like, you know, just putting it right out there because here’s the thing. I started using these botanicals before menopause and I used them all through menopause. And now. I am passed, you know, through it all. And they have saved me in more ways than I can possibly imagine.
And now that I have been out there selling them for years these, so, so let’s get back to the science. So putting these botanicals, you’re activating your endocannabinoid receptors because women. Thousands of them concentrated in their intimate area, in their vulva, in their vagina, in their pelvis. We have thousands of receptors.
And so by applying. So after you’ve applied the botanicals that are phyto cannabinoids and cannabinoids to these soft tissues, you are gently encouraging the body to produce its own moisture, to feel calm. I have some ladies who say, this is my daily dose of Xanax and they just put it on right after their shower.
I have other women who. Cannot say enough about the fact that they are rebuilding the tissues that deteriorate as we stop producing Estrogen that is why women lose their libido. That’s why intercourse becomes painful and the repercussions of menopause are so Far and wide. I mean, it’s sort of, it’s so sad.
I, I have women this weekend doing this conference. I had so many women, they stand there with tears in their eyes talking to me about how their relationships almost failed, their marriages almost failed, because they had no help. And what we are getting on a large scale, and obviously there are amazing doctors out there helping women.
And groundbreaking research, but as a general rule, you go into CVS and you say, Hey, I’m experiencing dryness, or I’m experiencing a lack of libido, or I’m experiencing any one of those sort of nasty complaints. You look at the ingredients on those products, and they’re telling you to put that on your intimate area.
For shame, like for shame, for shame, for shame. Like that’s the nicest thing I can say about that because you are actually putting on silicone based products that are drying out the tissues. You’re not nourishing the tissues. You are not telling your body to balance just because we lose estrogen and just because we go through these changes in our life.
That’s not. A dry it up and, , say goodbye sentence, it doesn’t have to be. Mother Nature provided us with everything we need. And then what did we do? So many hundreds of years ago, we started to vilify the medicine woman who took care of her family with everything that Mother Nature grew in her garden.
She made salves that nourished tissues. And well, we like to discount that because, you know, the old story, Rockefeller came along and said, if you don’t stop. producing some of these medicines, I’m not going to fund whatever endeavor you want me to fund. It’s a really sad story that I won’t go down that rabbit hole because , I love the medical profession.
They saved my life. And I’m from a family of doctors, so I have great respect, but I have very little to say about the options that are being presented to women, you know, giving us things that don’t, you know, replacing our hormones. We don’t need, well, I don’t speak to that. Everybody’s different, but I don’t want to continue feeding my body estrogen once I’m done producing it.
I want my body to say, hey, I’ve got a system that balances me. So let’s do it. Let’s balance me. Let’s make me feel good and let me, and, and help keep me feel juicy. I can’t believe I use that word cause I used to just hate that word, but I can’t get away from it. It’s really extends to your joints.
I mean the pain, in the joints, it’s not just the lack of libido and the lack of moisture down there. This is everywhere in the body, you know, sleep complaints, appetite, balancing our appetite. How amazing it is. To be able to do that out of my talking talk. Stop me. No, no, no. This is all great.
Great. Info and great education. I want to know about the the rock star blend. Let’s get a little bit into your product. Now. I think you’ve given us some good solid ground to work with. Talk, talk to me about the product. So our star product is called rock star woman. And it’s a base of organic fractionated coconut oil, which means that it never gets solid when, when it gets cold.
So the fractionated coconut oil, and then the rest of the ingredients are all organic. botanicals and they are all oil based. There is no water in the formula. And this might sound like, why is she even saying this? I’m saying this because it does. It means that we don’t need a preservative and that’s huge.
A lot of these water based lubricants and gynecologists recommend water based lubricants over oil based because some studies have shown oil based can bring more bacteria. But that’s because these are people digging their hands into a jar of coconut oil on the side of their bed, and that’s breeding bacteria.
So back to Rockstar Woman, okay? So this is new, this just came up for a blog post this weekend so my whole thing is educating people. So the blend itself, the botanicals that are in there, when I first started making Rockstar Woman, all I wanted to do was boost my immune system, cleanse my lymphatic system, and bring Those amazing plant botanical benefits to my whole body.
I wasn’t thinking anything about menopause. I wasn’t thinking anything about Good sex or any of that. So these botanicals were first for antiviral antibacterial Antifungal, that’s thrush, that’s the, you know, vaginal infections we get, because what my doctor said is, you know, get, get a bad infection, you never know.
So, in the beginning, that was my goal. There’s a lot of Boswellia, those are the frankincenses, there’s a lot of frankincense in the blend. There is a a good amount of vanilla, things to calm us, things that are phyto cannabinoids. That means they mimic a cannabinoid and bind to our receptors. The blend itself is a pump bottle.
30 milliliters. So it’s a small pump bottle. You keep it on your bathroom counter, get out of the shower, and just put a couple pumps into your hand. You never touch the product because it’s in a, you know, sealed pump bottle. Couple pumps to your hand, and you just moisturize down there. You know, and as I always say, we spend so much money moisturizing our face, our neck, our chin, our decollete, back of our hand, everywhere, right?
Take care of those tissues, because they will nourish you from the inside. So that’s Rockstar Woman. The original product is a roll on, as the name suggests. It’s Rockstar Roll On. And that is a 10 milliliter roller bottle. And the list of botanicals on that formula, there’s over 20 botanicals. And it’s a base of jojoba.
Now there’s two forms. the original has no hemp, no CBD, no, no hemp at all. I have a number of air traffic controllers who love the product and they can’t be anywhere near it, despite the fact that this would not enter your, you know, show up on a podcast. But the roll on. is incredible for anything having to do with the skin, whether it’s redness or fine lines, wrinkles, sunspots, burns, bruises.
My auto ship clientele have eczema and psoriasis. Those people never want to be without Rockstar Roll On because it contains a heavy dose of sea buckthorn berry fruit and seed, which is excellent. Science study after study showing how great that is on psoriasis and eczema. The formula works really well on hemorrhoids, spider veins, varicose veins.
It’s amazing for calming. You down you roll it down the back of your ear side of your neck and that’s your vagus nerve and it will calm you Very quickly helps you sleep roll it on the soles of your feet So I always say rocks everyone needs a roll on everybody buys the rock star woman Because the caveat about rock star woman getting back to the feminine formula Is that because we have thousands of receptors in our intimate area when you’re One is using this product in the bedroom.
Not only are you getting an amazing amount of lubrication, and you’re getting the antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial properties, you’re getting the boost to the libido. Orgasms are out of this world. And at 55, I can honestly say, I have never in my life known anything to be like that. So, here I am. Is that the spelling point on the top of the website right here?
It is. It is. It’s really crazy, but it’s, you know, this is the thing. Orgasms are healthy. A recent study, it wasn’t a very big study, so no, no, you know, with a grain of salt, but a recent study found that 80 percent of women, when orgasming, produce their own endocannabinoid. Endo is from the Greek, from within, so it means we produce it ourselves.
80 percent of women in that small study, I think it was like 500 people, produce their own endocannabinoid. And the endocannabinoid that they produced, 2AG, 2 arachidonic glycerol, or an andamide. An andamide is the bliss hormone, 2AG is an immune boosting endocannabinoid. So we think about that for a minute, and you think, women get older, and they have no libido.
Sex becomes painful because estrogen decreases, and the wall of the vagina literally atrophies. And you know, women sort of say, I’m not that interested anymore, and so forth. And they stop getting that massive. Beautiful immune boost and boost to the mood on a, on a regular, like it’s once you start it producing in the body, it’s sort of like a chain reaction.
So it’s a really beautiful thing, I think, to help encourage women to not see themselves as dried up and moving on. I mean, everybody does everybody and I’m fully here for all of it. So you do you, I’m just offering something that Yeah, I mean, you can see the testimonials on the website. Some of these women called me and they’re just in tears, and before you know it, I’m in tears and everybody’s crying.
It’s just a beautiful thing to reclaim that or to find new, renewed joy in that. I mean, let’s face it, sex is really good for us on so many levels within our partnerships, within ourselves. And I don’t necessarily refer to partnered sex. I’m simply saying help your body, you have an innate system. That can balance you sex or no sex, because you can use rockstar roll on and do the same thing, , and, and you don’t need the heavy hitting formula.
I used to work in the music industry, so that’s why , how the name came. And so the word. Hence also the rock star, right? I got it. I got, I was curious about that. I got it. So that’s what, what is a rock star? Somebody who shows up every day, somebody who performs every day, that’s a rock star. I mean, you know Absolutely.
That’s what you hope you got if you’re the record company. And Heather, I want to spend some of the time that we have left here. I want to give a quick shout out to SRQ Women’s Expo. I understand that you’ll be speaking at that, right, and participating? I don’t know that I’m speaking at that, but I am, I hope, I would love to be speaking.
I don’t think I’m speaking, but I am participating at that. Maybe I am. I did, I did apply. I just, I have to be honest. I’ve been doing this other expo, but this is an incredible expo happening here in Sarasota at the end of the month on, what is it, Sunday, July 28th. And if I am speaking, it would be on sex aging and menopause, because that is my wheelhouse.
I really want to help, you know, as I say. We have all these plant botanicals and they were all taken away from us and now we’re taking them back. Like, this is what we are all about these days. Gen X has hit menopause and we’re not here for that old narrative. So this SRQ Women’s Expo Juliana has done an incredible job of providing resources for moms and female entrepreneurs and their families.
She’s got childcare. It will be at the Ritz Carlton. There are a number of different speakers. I know that there’ll be speakers on financial security for women. I’m, I’m not sure all of the speaker panel, forgive me on that one, but it’ll be a lovely event with a ton of vendors as well. Yeah, , and speaking of the vendor side of things Heather, if somebody wants to follow up and they want to learn more about Rockstar Blends in general and Rockstar Roll On, I mean, , how do they do that?
How do they connect with you and your brand? Well, as you can tell, I love to talk about this, so anybody is always welcome to reach out through rockstarblends. com. The greatest gift I can give is help share some of my journey and how it’s helped me and if I can help you. Oh my gosh, because you know what? When we feel good, that’s when we do good. Like when we feel good. We look good. We do good. I always say to my kids, don’t get mad at that lady who didn’t return her grocery cart.
Do you have any idea how she’s feeling? You have no idea. Maybe walking across the parking lot is too much for her at this moment. Let her be. I’ll go return her card. I feel great. You know, so. Oh, that’s wonderful. Anybody who wants to reach out, please go to her. I seriously now, you’ll never think about the same, right?
Like, what if she’s walking across the parking lot? I’ll sit and my kids will look at me. Okay. Do you realize? She could feel dry as the Sahara down there and she’s walking through the parking lot in this 95 degree heat and humidity. All of a sudden my kids look at me like, oh my gosh, mama, you’re right.
Like, that’s right. You don’t know. Nobody knows until you walk in anybody else’s shoes. Enough, enough, enough, mom. Well, Heather, I just have to say this has been a whole lot of fun and just for everybody that’s listening we’ll definitely put the link to rockstarblends.
